Busses (and Trains) to Lucketts

The plan had originally been to take the Amtrak train to Union Station, then the commuter rail out to Ann and Warren's house. When we went to buy the Amtrak tickets, though, the already expensive tickets had gone up in price so much that we decided to find a different way. A little internetting later, Zach found a newish bus company (Our Bus) that would whisk us to Union Station for just a fraction of the cost. It was. a smooth and relatively easy ride, and just a little longer than the train would have been.

We still hopped on the MARC train out to Ann and Warren's. The kids got a big kick out of our final train station name: Point of Rocks (or, as they affectionately called it, Pile of Rocks).

Steam Trains

Earlier in the day we met up with Judd & Tybe & crew at the steam trains. It's been ages since I've been up there! Just as fun as we remembered. : )

Amtrak to GIFF 2017

Molly inspired us to go to GIFF 2017 (Geocaching International Film Festival) on Friday. I inspired us to take Amtrak there (it was in Martinez).

To Grandmother's house we go!

On Monday, Nona & I delivered Clara to Nana & Pa by train. The train ride was fun (if slow).

Here's some of the silly and sweet pictures I took on the way down.

Finally, a roundup of the last pictures from my wonderful trip to Utah with Barnali, Bharati, Monisha, and Indrani. Mostly these are pictures from our train ride there, and back. Also a few pictures from around town.

Görlitz

Friday, June 29, 2012

Another sunny day! In fact, it was downright hot! We arrived in Gorlitz this afternoon, greeted with kisses at the train station by my aunt Bërbel and my uncle Dieter. They whisked us off to our hotel, with a little detour due to many blocked streets in the old part of town where our hotel is. While it's lovely to be able to walk around town with out many cars, it must be very difficult to drive here!

They helped us settle in to our amazing hotel. The location is fantastic: right on the Untermarkt, and next door to the building where my great grand parents had their bakery! We spent the afternoon exploring the area just around our hotel: enjoying a Bockwurst, dipping our fingers and toes in fountains, and playing on the crazy rock swing at the closest playground.
