Pinkeye Party (and "Tomorrow")

Molly got sent home from school yesterday with the dreaded pinkeye. It's not actually that bad, even though Clara has it too. I figured we should do something fun on our 24 hour ban, but not something that would involve direct contact with other kids, so, you know, we wouldn't spread the infection. We ended up having a great time at the zoo, although, as usual, the rides were almost more of an attraction than the actual animals. And there's a kid-sized door that's always a big hit (never mind the turtles, snakes, and lizards once you go through the door - there's always a traffic jam of kids at the door).

We've also been having some difficulty with the concept of "today" and "tomorrow" (did I write about this before?). For example, here's a general transcript of an earlier conversation:

"Is it tomorrow?"
"Yes, the appointment is tomorrow."
"Is it tomorrow now?"
"No, it's today."
"Is it tomorrow?"
"No, it's today."
"What is it now?"
"It's today."
"When will it be tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow."
"What will it be tomorrow?"
"Thursday?"

Slide Ranch

We camped out at Goat Ranch this weekend. Oops! I mean Slide Ranch. They had lots of goats and sheep and many other things that were fun for us. Including just a little rain.

Top-Bottom: Family camping; Molly milking Fiona the goat; family after campfire; Molly & Daddy in the goat barn; Molly & Mama; Clara + drool; Molly feeds a baby goat; Clara & Mama; Daddy putting the last touches on a lovely flower crown for Molly; Clara enjoys camping; Water on the plant, Molly enjoying the view from the trail; Sheep, Zach, & Molly.

Last week they had picture day at Via Nova. We think the results are hilarious! Now I have to decide which ones to get. Help me out! Vote for your favorite 2.

First Tooth!

I was driving to the "Mexico restaurant" (more on that later) this evening with the girls; Clara was fussing; I reached back to hand her a toy or pacifier; she grabbed my finger, shoved it in her mouth, and I felt it! Just barely poking through the skin. But sure enough there's a tooth.

I think that explains the funny thing she's been doing with her tongue these last few days.

As for tonight, Zach has a really big RFP due for work next week so they decided to have a work evening to just get it done. I decided to take the girls out for dinner to avoid all the headaches of trying to cook while Clara cries and Molly asks a million questions. Molly asked if we could go to a "Mexico restaurant". I'm pretty sure she meant Mexican, and she seemed pretty pleased with my choice (Picante). We even got a free dinner because their computers crashed. Such is life in the digital age.

And the best thing is that the girls are both (mostly) peacefully sleeping in our bedroom right now: Clara in her crib & Molly in our bed. That was the part of the evening I was most worried about - orchestrating bedtime for both of them. But Molly was very sweet throughout the long rocking to sleep that Clara has needed recently. Then I snuggled in the bed with Molly and she enjoyed a long cuddle to sleep. Now, if I could just stop coughing, then I could go back in there and cuddle myself to sleep without fear of waking both of them up with the coughs.

Lake Anza

For the last day of really hot weather on Saturday we took a family trip up to Lake Anza. As you can see, everyone enjoyed the water. Now, we're back to our regularly scheduled weather, in the mid-60's & 70's.
