Yesterday we had a wonderful day celebrating Nona's birthday! We had presents (Bay Area gardening books - a must have for the new bay area gardener!), cake, and she picked out a really fantastic park to go to with the kids. I know she also really enjoyed getting calls and emails from family around the world!
We were all so happy to celebrate with her!

GRID-girl!
Saturday was GRID's annual Solarthon. While Clara napped, Molly got all decked out in GRID-wear and checked out the scene. This year they installed systems on nine houses, closed off one of the streets for a block party style event, and even set up a kids area with art projects, face painting, and recycled flower pot decorating.
You may notice that everything's a tad too small because it's actually sized to fit a certain two year old. And yes, the pants are made from one of Zach's old GRID T-shirts.

a trip to the salon
Our Friday Adventure two weeks ago was a girls trip to the salon. I had scored some crazy coupons for parent-kid haircuts at a place near my work, and I was in desperate need of a haircut, so we made a day out of it. First pictures are the before-salon outing at Dunsmuir. Then the salon fun!

Go Fly A Kite!
On Friday we went down to the park by the bay and flew kites. It was a little foggy, but the wind was perfect for a mellow kite day (not nearly as windy as usual!).

Big Bird vs Elmo
The following is a rough transcription of a conversation between Molly and Clara this morning. I was lucky enough to overhear most of it. Molly was getting a band aid for Clara (to put on an itsy bitsy boo boo).
Molly presents two band aids for Clara to pick from.
M: Do you want Big Bird or Elmo?
C: I want Elmo.
M: Why don't you want Big Bird?
C: I don't like Big Bird.
M: Why not? He's just a big yellow bird. He doesn't poop, or fly, or do anything. He just stands around chatting.
C: I want Elmo.
M: Big Bird has lots of yellow. You like yellow.
C: I want Elmo.
M: Elmo doesn't have any of your favorite color.
C: I like that.
M: So I'll give you Big Bird, okay?
C: I want Elmo.
At this point I walk away, when I return Molly proudly shows me how she put the Big Bird band aid on Clara all by herself.
S (to Clara): Oh! I see you got Big Bird!
C: I wanted Big Bird.
M: I convinced her.
