At The Farm: cooling off
One thing about this past weekend: it was hot! And by hot, I mean really, really hot. But! It wasn't humid - which is quite different from the heat that I have the most experience with. So, even though the temperatures climbed over 100F, a splash of water did wonders for evaporative cooling. At the campsite, we let the kids play with the solar shower bag and a bucket. And on some afternoons we drove down to the river and went swimming. The water, in both cases, was perfect: warm enough to be comfortable for a long soak, and cool enough to keep us cool.

At The Farm: with the trailer
We had the honor and luxury of camping with Nana & Pa's airstream trailer this weekend. While we didn't sleep in the trailer, we used it as a base for our "operations" over the weekend.

Horsies (part 2 of 2)
Lucy was a superstar: she calmly gave Molly & Clara a spin around the yard. And Molly & Clara were awesome, listening carefully and respectfully to Mary's instructions. Clara was a little alarmed when Lucy caught sight of a nearby cow and called out to see if it was a friend. And Molly reacted with impressive calm and control when Lucy stepped on her foot (oops!).

Horsies! (part 1 of 2)
Over the weekend, the horses moved to Mary P's place in Capay Valley. This was the first time the three of them have been together. Considering this, it all went really well. Yes, each horse ended up with at least one kick. Yes, Gus slipped under the electric wire & Aya jumped over. But Lucy also established her lead mare role and led all the horses to the water, the shade, and walked them around the perimeter.
It seems like it's going to be a good gang!
Plus, Mary kindly took the time to show the girls how to brush Lucy, and they even got to go on a pony ride (!!!). More info on the three horses on the BuyTheFarm website: http://buythefarm.org/?p=293
