Rim Fire & Kids in the Back Seat

The last stop on the way back was at an viewpoint that overlooked a chunk of the forest burned by the Rim Fire in 2013. This was the fire that burned Family Camp. It was interesting to see the informational pieces and projects, such as this crowd-sourced monitoring, that have sprung up around the fire recovery.

and the last picture is of the three girls (Cousin Elissa, Clara, and Molly) in the car, almost home!!

Tenaya Lake

Our other big stop was for a dip in Tenaya Lake - big, beautiful, cool, and totally refreshing.

Mono Lake

On the drive back we stopped several times to enjoy the sights and scenes of the high Sierra. Here, we stopped at Mono Lake, the matching bookend of the Great Basin to the Great Salt Lake.

More Pictures

The point of this trip was for the family to honor the life of Great Aunt Bobbe, and to scatter her ashes as she had requested, in the mountains.

Sparkly tattoo

On her forehead! Cousin Elissa and Aunt Jeannie both brought the same sparkly tattoos to share with the kids. Clara opted to put one on her forehead, which shocked some and others loved.

Mammoth Mining Co

And here's the Upper Adit & some of the remaining buildings.

Mammoth Mining Company

Nearby, the ruins of the Mammoth Mining Company are still there for exploring. We went this afternoon with Zach's aunt Jeannie and Richard. Here we are at the Lower Adit.

There were lots of old hunks of metal.

And amazing equipment.
