Frog Legs

One of the highlights of this trip was ... frog legs! Clara and Zach came up with a scheme to hunt and eat some frogs on the farm. They researched how to do the hunt, and even researched how invasive these bullfrogs are (in case anyone was feeling bad about killing them). And they succeeded! Frogs were hunted ("gigged"), and killed (which was much harder than expected), and skinned, and cooked, and finally even eaten! Not bad!

We also found tadpoles and much smaller frogs up at the corner pond. We hold out a tiny little bit of hope that these are actual native frogs, but understand that it's incredibly unlikely. They're probably just younger.

Friends at the Pond

The kids discovered a fun, partially submerged log that was perfect for sitting upon, and challenging each other to walk across. I'm pretty sure Molly was the only one to actually fall in. :)

Putting people to work

We also put some friends to work: putting a roof on the loo, building a chair from scraps, not to mention all the work Duff did on the barn!!

With Friends

Over the course of the week we enjoyed a steady flow of friends visiting and staying. Some came for the day, some camped overnight. Sometimes there were lots of folks, and sometimes just a few.

Spring Break Farm Pictures

Well, spring break was a while ago, but I'm sorting through pictures and I'll schedule them out for a week of posts for everyone to enjoy. This first set will be the miscellaneous pictures. Stay tuned through the end for an awesome set of pictures from our friend Eugene (thanks, Eugene!!!).

Without further ado, let the pictures begin!

(the barn is looking beautiful (as are the kids!); we discovered some goose eggs; reading by the light of the smartphone; the take-apart chair that we built; 50 of the neighbor's 400 ducklings; Molly made scrambled eggs, practiced whittling, and hiked; the neighbor's cat had kittens and hid them away in a barn with a somewhat-cryptic old message on the chalkboard from who-knows-when!)

They are off!

Molly and Nana and Pa are off for an evening on the town. This was a birthday present from Nana & Pa - they are going out to dinner and off to see a play. Molly is thrilled and they all look lovely! I hope they have a great time!
