Berzdorfer See

Another lovely Spielplatz

This is the playground we visited in the morning. There was a small train, too, but it was closed until later in the week. Luckily, everyone was content to play here for a while, and no one missed the train. :)

Shopping, Playing, and Swimming

The kids are in bed and we're all enjoying the sounds of the evening. On our side of the building I'm watching the lightening and listening to the distant thunder as it gets closer and closer. On the kid's side there's the sound of the people on the square. Clara specifically asked to keep their windows open because she was enjoying listening to the sounds.

We had a somewhat quieter day, but still lots of fun. We started by going to a toy store for the kids to spend the 5 Euros that Petra's mother (my cousin's wife's mother) had given the girls to spend at the amusement park yesterday. They hadn't spent the money because the gift shop had closed by the time we were done, so we promised them they could spend the money today. They deliberated for quite some time before deciding on their purchases: a sticker book and a marker for Clara, and Molly bought a birthday card for Zach (shhh!) and a pencil sharpener as an early birthday present for me.

Then some more walking around town, a visit to a playground, a visit to the new lake, and shopping for replacement crocs and t-shirts for the kids. Pictures coming up next!

Pictures below:
Hausalarm icon - every time I saw this I wated to push the button!The historic department store - only a small shop remains on the first floor, with a donation box asking for money to help with the heating. Not everything in Gorlitz has been saved or restored: these pictures show scenes from the house where my grandmother lived with my aunts. Emergency ExitKids playing in the fountain

Dinner am Untermarkt

Kulturinsel - towers, walkways, and tunnels

and in this final round of pictures from Kulturinsel we have more of the fun from our visit including lots of tunnels and towers (and tunnels between towers!). I also thought it was sweet that in the midst of all this novel play equipment, Molly found a digger like the one she used to enjoy at San Pablo Park (until they removed it because kids kept getting their fingers crunched in it).

Kulturinsel - Spin-ny things and funny swings

In this second set of pictures are some of the crazy swings, things that spin, and other funny things we enjoyed at Kulturinsel:
A basket swing that has only one entrance - at the bottom;
a hand-spun carousel-type spinner;
A braided rope swing for 4 (or more!);
Mama being pushed by Clara in the "universal" swing;
Michelle & Nico on a swing built for 2;
Clara, Molly, & Michelle on another thing that spins;
A crazy chicken coop;
An egg-shaped thing to climb into;
Mattias pulling the girls in a cart;
Trampoline fun!
