Via Nova has a tradition that families give the school a book on their child's birthday. And also most families bring in a treat for the class. Clara and I have a morning routine that involves reading a book, and often that book is one that another family has given to the school. Well, a full two weeks after Clara's birthday I was sitting on the couch at school, getting ready to read to Clara, and looking at the dedication that had been written in the book: "To Via Nova, on SoAndSo's 3rd Birthday". And I started thinking, I wonder what book we'll give Via Nova this year... I wonder if they have a wish list... hmm... when will we be giving that book? And then it hit me! We had totally forgotten to celebrate Clara's birthday at Via Nova. Which, of course, would have been totally fine, but I blurted the news to Clara, who immediately wanted to celebrate.
So, I started talking to the teachers about the celebration, and asking about dietary restrictions (remembering there were allergies in the class). And I started wondering, what would be an easy, but yummy, treat that has no gluten, eggs, or nuts in in? And look what I came up with! There were these huge, beautiful strawberries, plus a blackberry, plopped in a cupcake holder, with an optional dollop of whipped cream on top! I must say, I impressed myself. :) And the kids liked them, too.
