Reading at the Bus Stop

Waiting for the bus home after another successful trip to the library. Can't wait 'til our neighborhood library re-opens this spring (in a fancy new building!)

Spring Flowers

Spring is well under way and it's been a beautiful one! Here are just some of the flowers of late, including:
- a beautiful bouquet of bright orange poppies with pink coral bells that Nona brought us from her garden
- the brightest and longest bloom that I've seen on our Redbud tree since we planted it ... 9 years ago?
- bright yellow with orange center poppies from our front yard

Gardening

The girls volunteered to do a little gardening in front of our house. In this case, gardening meant digging out wild onions - those things take over! I suppose it helps that I pay them $0.05 per onion bulb.

Haircuts: Molly

After a recent playdate with Stella, who's hair is cut "like a boys" (according to all parties involved), both Molly and Clara declared that they wanted their hair even shorter than Stella's! Granted, I'm pretty sure Clara just said it because Molly did, but they both insisted. And, since they were due for a haircut anyway, I decided to give it a go, and I'm pleased with the results. I will admit that I was conservative in cutting since it's been a while since they (and I) have had short hair. Both girls were generally happy, only complaining that their hair is still too short.

Here's how it went with Molly's wild mane, photographed in both cases after a good night's sleep (note that she's actually much happier about the cut than she looks in the pictures):

A Princess & A Servant

Entirely their doing. I swear. Molly declared Clara a princess and herself a servant. And they walked all the way to the park like this.

Clara-witch

Face painting has been all the rage around here these days. Clara took it to the next level yesterday by adding a dramatic costume to her dramatic face.

SMOAC Codornices (v.2)

Last Saturday's SMOAC took us back to Codornices Park. I still can't quite pronounce the name of that park without help from the girls, but that doesn't change how fun it is. It's a big park, with playgrounds, a creek (Codornices Creek, I would guess), and a wooded hillside that feels endless (even though it's not). We played the hiking game - the leader heads out until out of view, and waits at the next trail junction; then the second hiker hikes to the first, and so on. We also enjoyed taking the bus there - and the girls enjoyed reading & drawing on the bus (even though we got frustrated by one bus that we missed because it was a few minutes early!).
